A Taste of Tradition, Baked with Love

Who We Are
Mama Ines Mexican Bakery first opened its doors in Lafayette, Indiana, in 1999 with one simple mission: to share the authentic flavors of Mexico through fresh, handmade bread and pastries. Today, we continue to honor that tradition by offering a wide variety of pan dulce, tamales, and seasonal specialties made with love and care.

Our bakery is named after Rosa Cornejo’s beloved mother, and its roots run deep in culture, family, and resilience.
Our Story: From Humble Beginnings to a Dream Realized
Rosa Cornejo was born in Mexico City and raised in Salazares, Zacatecas, as the third of nine children in a family that faced extreme poverty. At just 16 years old, she immigrated to the United States in search of a better life. With limited resources and no formal education, she worked as a housekeeper, food runner, prep cook, and waitress—often holding multiple jobs at once.

Despite language barriers and economic challenges, Rosa’s determination never faded. She earned her GED, became a U.S. citizen in 1992, and eventually achieved what once felt impossible—earning her real estate license. But her true passion was always rooted in food and family.

In 1999, she turned that passion into a reality by opening Mama Ines, becoming a first-generation business owner and creating a space where her community could enjoy the comforting flavors of her heritage.

I wanted to share my culture.” — Rosa Cornejo
